LUNA, Wash.
— A local woman says she will be suing a manufacturer of underwear and panties, after she was told her products were “too feminine.”
The American Conservative reported that Luna Brands Inc. sent a letter to customers last month informing them of its intention to sue.
The letter stated the products violated federal guidelines and that Luna violated federal law by labeling them as “manly” products.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday by Jillian Larkin, owner of Luna Products, is a direct response to the letter.
Larkin said she purchased the Luna brand underwear and feminine products in 2010 and 2013. “
I have been told that they are too feminine and that I am ‘too feminine.'”
Larkin said she purchased the Luna brand underwear and feminine products in 2010 and 2013.
She said in an email that her company is not responsible for products that are made in China.
“We are not able to guarantee that our products are 100% of the product we sell,” she wrote.
“This is a legal obligation that we must live with.
We are not in the business of selling you product that you do not want.”
The company, which sells the products in over 100 countries, told The American College of Rheumatology and Women’s Health that the materials are not meant to be used in a “sexually objectifying manner.”
“The Luna products are not intended to be worn by women and therefore are not sexually objectifying,” a Luna spokesperson said in a written statement.
“Luna has taken the necessary steps to ensure that these products are manufactured and distributed in accordance with the standards of acceptable medical products.”
Larkin said that she was initially told the underwear was for girls only, and she has since received complaints from women who want to use the product to wear to work.
“They have said that their girls are very interested in the products, but they do not think they are suitable for men,” Larkin told The Washington Times.
“So they want the products to be suitable for women and I think the people who are using them are doing the wrong thing by making a product that women are not interested in.”
Larkins attorney, Scott C. Stolz, said the company is investigating the lawsuit.
“Our legal department has been looking at this, and they are aware of this lawsuit, and we will be looking into it,” Stolzz told The Associated Press.
